Sea glass definitely inspires me, but the ‘process’ doesn’t start with the seaglass, when you see the Cornish coastline you cannot fail to be impressed by the sheer beauty and diversity of the views, so my creativity is most definitely inspired by the amazing views I see and photograph on my daily walks.
I have literally taken thouands of photographs of the Cornish coast, I don’t think I ever go out without taking at least one photograph!
So I have plenty of material to help me when I want to recreate a scene from my daily wanderings .
Initially I tried to make everything using the sea glass, shells and pebbles found on the beaches, but I am increasingly introducing hand drawn elements to my artwork.
So I take a picture I like and make a rough sketch of the scene I am hoping to recreate.
I then sit down with my boxes of sea glass, shells and pebbles, carefully sorting through them until I have a selection of pieces I think may suit the picture.
The trial and error phase comes next… it can take several days to mock up how I would like the final piece to look.
And finally the tricky part, actually glueing the pieces in place, tweezers and patience are a must!
I decided to turn this image into a Christmas card for a friend, who’s favourite beach is Whipsiderry.
I am hoping to make more cards in the future, so please contact me if you have a special place that you would like to see recreated in this way.
