The beaches in Cornwall are, without a doubt, spectacular, and I spend many happy hours beachcombing, but a lot of the inspiration for my art comes from the surrounding countryside.
There are so many beautiful places to explore in this wonderful county, hopefully preserved for generations to come!

One of my favourite places to visit is the Goss Moor nature reserve. It covers approximately 480 hectares… and everything is free, even the car parks!
The nature reserve has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Special Area of Conservation, and if like me you are keen on conservation I highly reccomend a visit, you will love it.

The reserve is home to many rare species including Cornish moneywort, yellow centaury, Cornish pillwort, marsh clubmoss, small red damselfly, variable damselfly and the marsh fritillary butterfly.
Twenty eight other species of butterfly; 18 types of dragonflies and damselflies; and over 70 species of bird have been recorded on the reserve,
I spot something new every time I visit.

You can completely immerse yourself in nature at Goss Moor, there is a 7 mile circular trail which is mostly flat and a lot of it is off road, so it is ideal for both cyclists and walkers… but you might have to watch out for the ponies and cattle that graze and wander freely in the area, they do sometimes block your path 😊

If, like me, you love finding out about Cornish history, here are a few facts.
The name Goss is believed to derive from the Celtic word “cors” meaning a marshy or boggy place. Like so many places in Cornwall, the moor has a long history, legends tell of it being one of the hunting grounds of King Arthur. It was listed in the Domesday Book 1086 as being part of the manor of Tremodret. Between 1000 AD up until the 1800s tin was streamed here.
But what I love most about Goss Moor, is the peace and quiet and the chance to reconnect with nature.
